If you’re looking to get started with building your own home workshop, you’ll need the right tools to get the job done. Whether you’re working on cars, bikes, lawn mowers, furniture or something else entirely, it’s important to have the right tools on hand to ensure that everything you do is done correctly and with ease. If you don’t know where to start, look at these five must-have tools for any home workshop.

Workbench

A workbench is where you’ll do most of your work. Whether you need to drill holes, saw boards, or assemble furniture, a workbench is an important tool. A workbench can be used both indoors and outdoors depending on the type that you buy, but ideally you should purchase one that has a metal surface to help prevent wear and tear on your workbench top.

If space isn’t an issue, consider buying two benches: one larger version and a smaller version. The larger bench will accommodate heavier jobs like sawing lumber while the smaller bench will make light assembly jobs more comfortable. Remember to keep your tools close by with plenty of storage room available.

You’ll also want plenty of lighting so working in dim conditions doesn’t become an issue.

Power Drill

A power drill is one of the most versatile tools in your workshop, since it can drill holes into various materials with ease. You’ll need a high voltage power drill to match the needs of your project, and there are plenty to choose from. Here are some key features to consider when purchasing a new power drill.

Voltage

The higher the voltage, the more powerful and effective your drill will be.

Amperage

This is essentially how much energy flows through your power tool at any given time, so you want it to be as close to or equal to the task you’re performing.

RPM (rotations per minute)

RPM indicates how quickly a bit moves around the surface, so you want one that is at least 50% of the size of what you’re drilling into material.

Measuring Tape

A measuring tape is an essential tool. They come in several types, including folding and retractable, with some being made specifically for certain projects.

This handy device can be used to measure anything from furniture to kids’ toy boxes. They are indispensable when it comes to building something new or fixing up something old.  Be sure to include a measuring tape on your list of tools!

Jigsaw

A jigsaw is a type of power saw which has blades that are in a reciprocating action so it cuts on the push and pull stroke. It can cut through just about any type of material including wood, metal, stone, etc. They’re powerful and have greater capacity than many hand saws but are awkward to use.

The most common size blade in this type of saw is about 6 inches long with two handles located on the side for balance and better control. Blades come in different shapes (or tooth pattern) to handle different types of materials such as wood or metals. When cutting straight lines, you’ll want a flat-cut tooth; when cutting curves or circle patterns, you’ll want a round-cut tooth; and when cutting plywood sheets, you’ll want what’s called an upright tooth.

Clamps

There are many types of clamps available today such as the parallel jaw pliers, wing nut, spring clamp, clip type and jaw closure nail clippers. Each one is used to hold two or more objects together in order to secure them or to position them so that they can be worked on with a tool.

You will need a set of different sized clamps that you can use at the same time depending on what your needs are at any given moment. You should always have a good supply on hand because they get lost easily, become bent and rusty, break or get misplaced.

They come in different sizes and shapes but it is best to have ones that fit your needs well so you can get the most out of them without wasting money on expensive ones you don’t need. I like to store my clamps in their own storage bin so I know where they are and can find them when I need them.

Conclusion

In the home workshop, you need the basic essentials and that’s it. You’ll find them all here, from your essential electric drill to hammers and clamps, we have it all for you. All these tools are high quality too so don’t be afraid to get out there and start making something new!
